The red dots indicate position reposts received on 11/09. The black dots indicate reports before then. The numbered icons indicate a report in the past hour and the number indicates the altitude of that report. A track ending without a numbered icon indicates that nothing has been heard from that balloon on this UTC today, i.e. in the past hour. Recall that red dots indicate a report from yesterday, black dots reports from earlier days and numbered icons are reports from today which is within the past hour. The numbers indicate altitude in 3K feet slices. So, 4 is 12K to 15K feet and 8 is 24k to 27K feet. Flight Status (0417 UTC 08-NOV-08) Posted By: randall.s.collander On: 08-Nov-2008 Seven balloons were launched from Puerto Rico today by Tom Ayers. One payload was not launched because no response from it was received on the internet even though it was turned on for over 2 hours. Here is the status of the 7 balloons that were launched where: the ID, launch day, launch time, day of last report, time of last report and altitude at last report are shown. Recall that a red dot means a report from 11/07 and a numbered icon shows a report from 11/08 and the number is indicative of altitude. http://www-frd.fsl.noaa.gov/mab/wisdom/flt_data/WISDOMaltPR2.gif shows altitude of the balloons in time after the first launch. Note that W000034 appeared to suddenly stop transmitting position. Tom reported that W000038 was launched just as wind and weather were changing and rain started. On the map, the black 0 is from this balloon which appears to have been brought down by rain and is currently near the ground transmitting intermittently. Flight Status (2014 UTC 07-NOV-08) Posted By: randall.s.collander On: 07-Nov-2008 WISDOM balloons will be launched from Key Largo, FL and Barbados later this afternoon, and from Waveland, MS soon after the frontal passage later this evening.More Information:WISDOM balloon tracks continue southward from Puerto Rico as shown at http://www-frd.fsl.noaa.gov/mab/wisdom/flt_data/start20081107PR2.JPG . Flight Status (1741 UTC 07-NOV-08) Posted By: randall.s.collander On: 07-Nov-2008 Tom Ayers has started launching WISDOM Balloons from Puerto Rico and has launched 4 so far on Friday. All 4 seem to be functioning as expected. Here is balloon ID; launch site; launch day; first report after launch; altitude in feet at last report. The lower level trajectory seems to be to the SW toward the tropical storm Paloma and the upper level trajectory seems to be to the SE as shown in the attachment. Recall that the numbers in the icons indicate which 3K foot slice of the atmosphere the balloon reported from. So, 4 indicates 12K to 15K feet and 8 indicates 24K to 27K feet. Test flight data errors Posted By: randall.s.collander On: 26-Oct-2008 The WISDOM data packets being received by NOAA no longer have a data and time associated with them. The date/time designation changed to - "999" yesterday. This makes analysis of the data packets problematic and normal status reports are no longer possible. Based on what has been received in the past day, it seems likely that W000111 has descended and is on the ground somewhere in Central America. W000156 (over the Atlantic Ocean) and W000160 (over Canada) appear to have reported data after W000111 stopped reporting, but their current status is unknown. More Information: Test flight status (0550 UTC 25-OCT-08) Posted By: randall.s.collander On: 26-Oct-2008 The WISDOM data stream stopped last night at about midnight. On the map, the black 0 is from this balloon which appears to have been brought down by rain and is currently near the ground transmitting intermittently.
WISDOM balloons will be launched from Key Largo, FL and Barbados later this afternoon, and from Waveland, MS soon after the frontal passage later this evening.More Information:WISDOM balloon tracks continue southward from Puerto Rico as shown at http://www-frd.fsl.noaa.gov/mab/wisdom/flt_data/start20081107PR2.JPG . The map background is a satellite IR image taken about 6 hours ago.
The WISDOM data stream has been restored with proper date/time values. The present status of the balloons is given in the table below: Based on the data being received, it appears that W000111 and W000156 are still functioning and near the design altitudes. The WISDOM data packets being received by NOAA no longer have a data and time associated with them. More Information:
